Jakarta (ANTARA News) - National cellular GSM operator AXIS, will carry out cellular communication network expansion by calling a tender of the procurement of 5,000 telecommunications towers.

"The tender is offered to companies or rental tower providers. The expansion is carried out to support the firm`s mobile broadband`s services," President Director and Chief Executive Officer of AXIS Erik Aas said here on Wednesday.

He said that AXIS had begun the process for calling the open tender for provision of the 5,000 telecommunications towers.

Erik said that when the planned expansion was already completed the company would double its coverage areas.

"The coverage of the broadband service significantly become wider and has better quality where customers would enjoy faster internet access," he said.

The AXIS strategy to hire towers is in line with the government`s directives for a joint utilization of telecommunication industry infrastructure.

AXIS does not only expand its network but also improve its network quality in concrete term, he said.

In all AXIS networks, the speed of data would increase significantly up to 42 Mbps, which would accelerate the internet access, the sending and receiving of email messages and the uploading or downloading of data.
