Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A number of businessmen from Indonesia and Poland held a meeting here Monday to discuss possible cooperation in the energy sector.

"This is the right moment to develop cooperation between the two countries," Indonesian Ambassador to Poland Darmansjah Djumala said during his remarks.

The current business meeting is the third to be held after previous meetings in May and September 2011 that resulted in the group issuing a Letter of Intent (LOI).

"This meeting is a realization of presidential instructions on diplomacy in the economic field," he said.

Poland is a European Union nation, but has not yet joined the Euro Zone. The country is a pioneer in open economics and has largely been unaffected by the current European economic crisis.

Because of European economic sluggishness, Poland is now turning towards the Asian market, the ambassador said.

"Polish businessmen are interested in various sectors, such as energy and waste management, which can be applied in big cities," he said.

Also, Polish businesses are considering building mining equipment factories and establishing mining companies in several coal mining locations, he added.

Last year, a Polish businessman agreed to invest in South Sumatra and is exploring another business possibility in Kalimantan.

"Poland is the electricity energy producer in Europe. Its businessmen are interested in investing in this field, given the fast economic growth in Indonesia," he said.

The trade balance between Indonesia and Poland reached 600 million US dollars in 2011, and Indonesia enjoyed a surplus valued at 500 million US dollars last year.

Commodities traded by the two countries include textiles, electronics, coffee, tea, pharmaceutical products and shoes.
