Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Syafaruddin Ashari, the International Banking manager of the North Sumatra provincial bank, "Bank Sumut", passed away here on Wednesday while undergoing a fit and proper test.

"Ashari, 50, underwent a fit and proper test at the Bank Indonesia (BI) office in order to be promoted to Director for Business and Sharia Affairs at PT Bank Sumut," BI public relations officer Difi A Johansyah said here on Thursday.

The doctor who was examining Ashari noted that the Bank Sumut official died at 4.50 pm.

"The police will investigate the cause of Ashari`s death," Difi said, while expressing his condolences on behalf of Bank Indonesia.

Ashari`s body was scheduled to be flown to Medan for burial on Thursday (January 17). (*)
