"A lot of commercial loans used to build infrastructures has caused inefficiency," Prabowo said during the second round of presidential debate here on Sunday.
Many people sold their land to make way for the development of infrastructures. As a result, they had to move to other areas, he said.
Therefore, the government should make soft or popular approaches in developing infrastructures, he said.
"Speaking is very important. We must strive to increase the added value of the economy in order to pay off those debts," he said.
The development of infrastructures during President Joko Widodo`s government was less efficient, he said.
"A lot of infrastructures are carried out inefficiently," Prabowo said.
He pointed out that a number of projects had been carried out without a feasibility study.
"Without the right feasibility study, the result of the projects leads to losses. It is very difficult to pay for the projects. It is a problem," he said.
If the infrastructures are not utilized for people`s interest, then they will become a monument, he said.
"Later they will become a monument, if they are not utilized, such as the construction of a light rapid transit (LRT) system in Palembang, South Sumatra and Kertajati International Airport in Majalengka, West Java," he said.
Based on data from the Ministry of Transportation, the national strategic projects in the transportation sector which are being undertaken include Kertajati International Airport, Express Railway lines linking to Soekarho-Hatta International Airport, Kuala Tanjung International Hub, Sultan Babullah Airport, Makassar New Port, Prabumulih-Kertapati railway, Ahmad Yani Airport and a light rapid transit (LRT) in South Sumatra.
