Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Joko Widodo (Jokowi)-Ma'ruf Amin pair awaits the General Elections Commission's (KPU's) official tabulation on a wing and prayer, opting not to announce victory in spite of a quick vote count giving it a thumbs-up.

Amin remarked that he and Jokowi are waiting for the official final tally of the KPU for the 2019 simultaneous presidential and legislative elections.

"The reason behind us not saying that we have won and declaring victory is since we are committed to respecting the rules and in no way delegitimizing the KPU," Amin remarked at his residence in Jakarta on Thursday.

Amin pointed out that the quick count conducted by pollsters has barely veered away from the official count. Nonetheless, Amin said he along with Jokowi and the campaign team will, by all means, respect the KPU that is competent to declare the winner of the presidential election.

"I think it is unethical to announce victory prior to an official announcement being made," he stated.

Amin further called on his loyalists to not become excessively euphoric in response to the quick count, as it was yet unofficial.
