Our top priority now is securing goods distribution and assuring logistics supplies in the country's islands
Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-owned ferry operator PT ASDP Indonesia (Persero) has suspended transportation services for passengers, but has decided to continue ferrying goods and providing logistics services till May 31 to support the ban on ‘mudik’ (homebound travel).

"We have coordinated with the Banten Police and the National Police, and all transportation services on Merak-Bakauheni route will be temporarily suspended for passengers, personal vehicles, car drivers, and motorcyclists, and private and public transportation vehicles," director of PT ASDP Indonesia, Ira Puspadewi, noted in a statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The director said the distribution of goods and other logistics services would be exempted from the measure.

"Our top priority now is securing goods distribution and assuring logistics supplies in the country's islands," she informed.

Due to the new measure, the state-owned ferry operator has stopped sale of tickets for ferry categories I, II, III, IVA, VA, and VIA from April 27 to May 31. "We hope passengers will not embark on ‘mudik’ this year and stay at home to curb the coronavirus spread," Puspadewi added.

Passengers who have already purchased tickets can request a full refund within 30 working days, the director informed. The refund requests can be submitted using an online form available on www.ferizy.com.

ASDP has also set up a hotline at its call center (08111-021-191) for processing refund requests. The company is also accepting requests via email at cs@indonesiaferry.co.id.

As part of efforts to slow the transmission of COVID-19, which has claimed 773 lives in the country so far, the Indonesian government has banned ‘mudik' during the Idul Fitri Holiday this year.

In the 24 hours since Monday (April 27, 2020), the authorities have recorded 415 additional coronavirus cases, which brings the total positive cases in the country to 9,511. (INE)
