Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Wednesday said that vocational education has a key role in efforts for developing human resources in the country.

"Vocational education holds an important position in the development of our human resources," the President said in an online speech, delivered on the official opening of the Vocational School building at Central Java's Diponegoro University.

Speaking from the Bogor Presidential Palace, Jokowi noted that one of the priorities for his cabinet in the next five years is human resources advancement.

He then lauded the opening of the Diponegoro University Vocational School, which has been established through cooperation with private companies, Sinarmas and Astra.

The President emphasized that efforts to free Indonesia from the middle-income trap would need to center on developing good infrastructure, strong human resources and institutions, as well as efficient work.

With these three factors, he continued, Indonesia would emerge as a developed country.

Furthermore, Jokowi said, the health and economic crises currently affecting countries across the globe, including Indonesia, should be used as a momentum to catch up on solving fundamental problems that still persist and to prepare big strategies, especially in the area of human resource development.

"The peak of the demographic bonus, when the working age (population) dominates the proportion of Indonesia's population, means that we must provide as many job opportunities as possible. We must prepare our human resource capacity to be productive and competitive," President Jokowi remarked. (INE)
