Jakarta (ANTARA) - A fire gutted five houses, two rented homes, and a furniture plant in Cakung, East Jakarta on Thursday, and damaged nine cars parked in the garages of the homes.

No casualties or fatalities were reported in the incident.

"The fire spread to the garages of the houses where nine cars caught fire," a local resident, Indra, said.

Most of the cars were private minibuses parked in open spaces with canopy covers, he informed.

The fire burned down four cars parked side by side in the parking lot, while one car was parked not far from the parking lot, he added.

Chief of the Operational Section of the East Jakarta Fire Department, Gatot Sulaeman, said the fire broke out in one of the production rooms of the furniture factory.

“As per the preliminary examination, the fire broke out in the rear part of the production room,” he informed.

At least 17 units of the pump fleet were deployed to put out the fire, he said.
