Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo gave instructions pertaining to the application of treatment standards for COVID-19 patients at hospitals.

"Last night, I received a report from the vice chairman of the Committee and the health minister that for the treatment standards, all have been instructed to refer to the standards outlined by the Ministry of Health to be applied in the intensive care unit (ICU), isolation rooms, and quarantine halls. This is very important," the president noted at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, Monday.

"We are optimistic of the mortality rate continually going down and the recovery rates getting better," Widodo remarked at a limited meeting on COVID-19 handling and economic recovery held through video teleconference.

The president cited data of COVID-19 cases as per September 27 2020, which showed that active cases in Indonesia averaged at 22.46 percent.

"This is slightly lower than the average active cases in the world that reached 23.12 percent. I think this is good and should be improved further," he remarked.

Widodo noted that in comparison with August 2020, the mortality rate due to COVID-19 in Indonesia also dropped to 3.77 percent, from 4.33 percent earlier.

"As compared to the global mortality rate, ours is slightly higher, as the global rate reached 3.01 percent. This is our homework together to continually stem the number, so it can go down steadily," the president stated.

Meanwhile, recovery rate for COVID-19 patients in Indonesia reached an average of 73.76 percent, still lower than the global recovery rate that averages 73.85 percent.
