The garbage was produced during the mass rallies across Jakarta
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Sanitary and Environment Office collected 398 tons of garbage generated during mass rallies held to vent rejection over the passage of the Omnibus Law on job creation on Thursday (Oct 8).

"The garbage was produced during the mass rallies across Jakarta," Andono Warih, head of the Jakarta Sanitary and Environment Office, stated here on Friday.

Most of the garbage was collected from the main street of MH Thamrin to Kota and MH Thamrin to Blok M, where the demonstrators were concentrated during the rallies.

For optimal trash handling, the office has deployed one thousand workers, 12 road sweepers, 12 pickup trucks, 20 inorganic waste trucks, and 30 dump trucks in addition to providing a thousand garbage sacks and 500 brooms.

The protest against the newly endorsed job creation law that begun since Monday (Oct 5) in the capital city took a violent turn on Thursday (Oct 8).

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan earlier stated that his administration had allocated some Rp25 billion to restore public facilities vandalized by the demonstrators.

"DKI will fund (the recovery of public facilities). We have calculated it, and probably, we will need some Rp25 billion," Baswedan revealed.

Public facilities damaged during the rallies comprise 18 Transjakarta bus stops owned by regional-owned firm (BUMD) PT Transportasi Jakarta, of which eight were set ablaze.
