Banda Aceh, Aceh (ANTARA) - A flood triggered by torrential rain submerged 206 houses in Gampong Julok Rayeuk Utara, Indra Makmur sub-district, East Aceh district on Wednesday morning.

Head of the East Aceh District Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Ashadi, confirmed reports of flooding in the district's hinterland.

“It is true. The task force, along with the joint team, are on their way to the scene to check the flood. No casualties have been reported in the disaster," he informed.

Of the 206 homes that were flooded on Wednesday, 113 were located in Eplasemen hamlet, where floodwaters had reached a height of 40-60 cm, while the remaining 86 houses were located in Ulama hamlet, where floodwaters had reached a height of 20-40 cm, he said.

Meanwhile, seven homes were flooded in the Simpang Tiga B hamlet, with floodwaters reaching a height of 20-35 cm.

On Wednesday, a flash flood hit Timbang Lawan and Sampe Raya villages in Langkat district in the neighboring province of North Sumatra, leaving several homes, inns, and a suspension bridge damaged in its wake.

"A number of houses and inns have been damaged, a suspension bridge has collapsed, and a number of livestock have been killed, but there have been no human fatalities," Pamilu H Hutagaol, head of the Bahorok Police, informed on Wednesday.

He said Bahorok was struck by a flash flood at midnight, following incessant heavy rain accompanied by lightning, which caused the Landak River to overflow. The water did not recede until 2 a.m. local time.
