Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-run bank Bank Mandiri has distributed humanitarian aid to people affected by the recent eruption of Mount Semeru in Malang and Lumajang districts of East Java.

The aid, under the Corporate Social Responsibility program, was distributed in two sub-districts, namely Pronojiwo and Candipuro, that are located in the lane connecting Lumajang and Malang, Bank Mandiri's corporate secretary, Rudi As Aturridha, informed in a statement here on Monday.

The aid was organized in collaboration with Mandiri Amal Insani (MAI) and directly distributed to the people who needed it, he said.

Aid was also sent to the local government in collaboration with the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), he added.

"Bank Mandiri quickly distributed aid to victims of the Mount Semeru eruption. This aid will be distributed continuously for the next few days," he said.

"We are also coordinating with related parties to distribute aid to evacuation posts," he informed.

The distributed aid comprises instant food, clothing, blankets, mats, raincoats, medical masks, mineral water bottles, and medicines needed by the disaster victims, he added.

Bank Mandiri, through its Disaster Quick Response, will also collaborate with MAI in providing health services, arranging evacuations, kitchen services, and logistics posts, Aturridha said.

Currently, Bank Mandiri is collaborating with the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), East Java BPBD, and local volunteers to distribute the aid in an optimal manner, he informed.

"We are also cooperating with the State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Ministry, through the provincial SOEs Task Force, to distribute the aid to the disaster site," Aturridha added.

"This collaboration is expected to be able to optimize aid distribution so that it is spread equally over the entire affected region," he explained.

Earlier, another state-owned corporation, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), also distributed aid to people affected by the eruption of Mount Semeru.
