The ministry's Director General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Dadan Kusdiana spoke of having received financial support from state-run energy company PT Pertamina and state electricity firm PT PLN to implement the conversion program.
"This year, we are targeting to convert one thousand units. We have received support from Pertamina and PLN for funding," Kusdiana noted here, Tuesday.
In 2021, the ministry had converted 100 motorcycles used in Greater Jakarta.

These motorcycles have already cleared the emission test and are roadworthy, and the police has issued blue license plates for the motorbikes.
According to Kusdiana, the conversion program will save fuel oil consumption of one liter per day per unit or a total of 34 kiloliters per year and a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions of 0.72 tons per day per unit or a total of 24.4 thousand tons of carbon dioxide per year.
It will also increase electricity consumption of 2 kWh per day per unit or a total of 72 MWh per year, he remarked.

According to Kusdiana, this step would have a multiplier effect on the increase in domestic converter kit component sales as well as present new opportunities for workshop technicians, vocational students, and small- and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs).
The ministry has worked in coordination with the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs to involve small and medium enterprises.
Kusdiana drew attention to the duo roles of SMEs in the transformation of electric vehicles in Indonesia, specifically in the form of providers of components for conversion and service providers in its workshops.
