However, after a long discussion, everyone agreed on a campaign duration period of 75 days, with two conditions
Jakarta (ANTARA) - A final decision had yet to be taken by the House of Representatives' (DPR's) Commission II, general election organizer, and government regarding the campaign duration for the 2024 General Election, DPR Commission II member stated.

The campaign period duration will be decided during the DPR Commission II's Work Meeting (Raker) and Opinion Hearing Meeting (RDP) along with the government and organizer on June 7, Guspardi Gaus noted in his statement on Friday.

The campaign period duration was discussed during DPR Commission II's consignment meeting on May 13-15, 2022, he remarked.

During the meeting, at the start, the General Elections Commission (KPU) suggested 120 days, the government requested 90 days, while majority of the faction in the Commission II proposed 60 to 75 days, he noted.

"However, after a long discussion, everyone agreed on a campaign duration period of 75 days, with two conditions," he stated.

For the first condition, the KPU urged the government to prepare a regulation, such as in the form of a Presidential Decree, to smooth out matters related to the general election's mechanism and logistical procurement.

In the second condition, discussion with the Supreme Court will be conducted to shorten the resolution of the general election dispute.

"If these two conditions can be fulfilled by related institutions, then the campaign period for the 2024 General Election can be shortened to 75 days," he remarked.

The consignment meeting aimed at aligning perception and understanding concerning several issues that people still have differing opinions on. It was not intended to be an official decision-making meeting, Gaus stated.

Moreover, opinion and instruction from President Joko Widodo on the campaign period duration will be a consideration for the commission along with the government and election organizer in determining the duration.

"Commission II had urged the KPU to create a scenario and simulation for 75 days of the campaign period. However, this simulation result has not been reported to the DPR Commission II," he remarked.

KPU's simulation result may officially be delivered during the Raker and RDP with the DPR Commission II scheduled on June 7.
