Jakarta (ANTARA) - An integrated transportation fare will be introduced for Jakarta commuters through the JakLingko system in mid-August, president director of PT JakLingko Indonesia, Muhammad Kamaluddin, has informed.

The Rp10 thousand (US$0.67) integrated fare scheme is pending the enactment of the Jakarta governor’s decision, which will serve as the legal basis for the scheme, he added.

"It will not be merely a trial, as the provincial authority has received the local legislature's recommendation for (adopting) the integrated fare. We target the launching to take place in mid-August," Kamaluddin informed here on Thursday.

The integrated fare of Rp10 thousand will apply for travelers who switch transportation modes between TransJakarta, Jakarta MRT, and Jakarta LRT within a three-hour trip, he said.

Travelers who use only one transportation mode will be charged the normal price by respective operators, Kamaluddin added.

Travelers could also plan their trip and pay their fare through the JakLingko card and application that will be launched soon on Android and iOS platforms, he added.

The integrated fare would be valid for the next six months, and the policy will be evaluated after the period ends, Kamaluddin informed.

He then cited JakLingko data that has projected a 16-percent increase in the number of Jakartans using public transportation in the first year of the new scheme’s implementation.

Moreover, a survey has also shown that 60 percent of Jakarta residents use more than one public transportation mode, while another 20 percent use three public transportation modes daily, the president director pointed out.

He highlighted that 98 percent of Jakarta is reachable through public transportation despite the need to switch transportation modes.

"We are optimistic that with the projection, more residents will be attracted and more private vehicle users will switch to public transportation," Kamaluddin remarked.
