BPJS Kesehatan will become the first insurer for (victims of) single-vehicle accidents, provided that the victim has an active National Healthcare Insurance (JKN) account
Makassar, South Sulawesi (ANTARA) - The state-run Healthcare and Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan) confirmed that the agency will accept claims of victims of single-vehicle accidents due to personal negligence.

"BPJS Kesehatan will become the first insurer for (victims of) single-vehicle accidents, provided that the victim has an active National Healthcare Insurance (JKN) account," BPJS Kesehatan Deputy Director for South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, and Maluku Beno Herman stated here on Friday.

Herman noted that other types of accidents, such as multiple-vehicle accidents or those involving vehicles and pedestrians, will be insured by PT Jasa Raharja.

"There are some other types of accidents insured by PT Jasa Raharja, for instance, for traffic accident victims boarding official public transportation and have paid their compulsory fee," Herman remarked.

Moreover, vehicle accidents occurring during work duties will be insured by BPJS Kesehatan, except for police and military officers, which are insured by PT Asabri, or PT Taspen for state apparatus, he stated.

The deputy director remarked that BPJS Kesehatan will also complement up to Rp20 million worth of claims provided by PT Jasa Raharja at the first instance by ensuring medical treatment until complete recovery.

"The police report will reveal whether a traffic accident constitutes a single-vehicle or multiple- vehicle accident, and by then, we could determine whether the insurance will be provided by BPJS Kesehatan or Jasa Raharja or jointly through coordination of the benefits scheme," Herman noted.

Meanwhile, the head of PT Jasa Raharja's South Sulawesi branch, Hendriawanto, remarked that the company's responsibility overlap with BPJS Kesehatan in insuring accident victims is aligned with the relevant ministry regulation, and PT Jasa Raharja is committed to always improving the performance.

"Jasa Raharja and BPJS Kesehatan strive to provide the best services. We have integrated hospital and data, and we have cooperated with some 102 hospitals. Multiple-vehicle accidents will be insured for Rp20 million, while casualties and victims with permanent disability will be insured for Rp50 million," he remarked.
