"The ministry is coordinating with other ministries/institutions and stakeholders in efforts to strengthen the role of museums as an educational medium," the ministry's deputy for mental revolution, cultural advancement, and improvement of sports achievements Didik Suhardi said here on Thursday.
A museum is not only a place to observe the richness of history, but also for other activities related to education, he added.
"Museums can be used for other purposes, such as places for book review activities, seminars on history or museum development, including being an attractive culinary center equipped with technological facilities for students," he said.
According to him, the attractiveness of museums needs to be developed so that students will love museums more and to support those who seek to study history more deeply.
"Museums must have the ability to create, innovate, and keep up with the development of scientific and technological advances," he added.
Furthermore, he stressed that museums, as a source of history, can serve as an educational medium to support the values of nation-building.
"In the strategy of advancing culture, there are at least four things that must be paid attention to, namely efforts to protect or preserve, foster, develop, and utilize museums," Suhardi said.
Therefore, the ministry is encouraging the local government and other related parties to keep improving the quality of museums as educational platforms where the younger generation can learn about culture and history.
"The ministry encourages local governments and other parties to make the development of museums a strategic matter and also as an educational platform for the next generation of the nation’s successors," he stated.
