Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's rowing national team won one gold and three bronze medals at the 2022 Asian Championships held in Ban Chang, Thailand, on November 30-December 4, 2022.

The team's coach, Muhammad Hadris, told ANTARA on Monday that Indonesia participated in eight out of a total of 16 race numbers.

"The results are one gold from number M2X and three bronze each from M4X, W4X, and M2-," he remarked.

Indonesia rowers -- Ihram and Memo -- won gold medal in the Men's Double Sculls (M2X) number. They emerged as the best after reaching the final recorded at 7 minutes and 7.215 seconds.

Ihram and Memo beat India's Sukhmeet Singh and Jakar Khan, who finished second, with 07:12.772 seconds, and Hamid Reza Rezvani and Shirzad Ghaderi from Iran in third place, with 07:14.367 seconds.

In the Men's Quadruple Sculls (M4X) number, Indonesia, which fielded Kakan Kusmana, Asuhan Pattiiha, Sulpianto, and Rendi Setia Maulana, won a bronze medal after finishing in the final at 06:32.146 seconds.

They were behind the representatives of China -- Zong Zhaoshan, Lu Zhiwen, Li Yinjie, and Liu Yingzhuo – who finished first, with 06:32.146 seconds, and representatives from Uzbekistan – Davrjon Davronov, Abdullo Mukhammadiev, Mekhrojbek Mamatkulov, and Shakhboz Kholmurzaev – in second place, with 06: 30.301 seconds.

Another bronze was won by Indonesian rowers -- Aisah Nabila, Nurtang, Julianti, and Melani Putri -- competing in the Women's Quadruple Sculls (W4X) number. They finished third in the final, with a record of 07:24.543 seconds.

"This result is, of course, very important for the rowing team, with the change in playing partners, especially M2X. With this result, the coach can chart the strengths of other countries at the XIX/2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China," Hadris noted.

The one gold and three bronze medals at the 2022 Asia Rowing Championships have placed Indonesia in sixth place in the medal standings.

China is in the top position, with four gold and five silver, followed by Vietnam, with four gold and two bronze; Hong Kong with three gold, two silver, and one bronze; Iran, with three gold and four bronze; and India with one gold, two silver, and one bronze.
