Jakarta (ANTARA) - Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim will visit Indonesia to hold a bilateral meeting with President Joko Widodo in early January of 2023, Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi stated.

"Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim plans to make his first bilateral visit to Indonesia in early January," Marsudi remarked after President Jokowi received a courtesy call from Malaysian Foreign Affairs Minister Zambry Abdul Kadir at the Presidential Palace here on Friday.

It was part of a series of visits by the Malaysian foreign affairs minister to Indonesia after a bilateral meeting with Retno Marsudi on Thursday, December 29.

"Yesterday, it was a bilateral (meeting) with me, and now, it is a courtesy call to the president to convey some messages from Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim," she remarked.

Minister Marsudi noted that she and the Malaysian foreign affairs minister had discussed about the preparations and the overall agenda for the bilateral meeting between President Jokowi and Prime Minister Ibrahim.

President Jokowi responded positively to the prime minister's plan to Indonesia, she said. The president tasked Minister Marsudi with preparing concrete deliverables to be discussed at the two head of states' meeting later on.

"The president, of course, welcomes the planned visit and also assigns the minister of foreign affairs to prepare the concrete deliverables. Hence, what can be produced from the first visit," the minister concluded.

On November 24, 2022, Anwar Ibrahim became the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia.

After meetings with Malay kings, Malaysia's King Yang di-Pertuan Agung Al Sultan Abdullah agreed to appoint Anwar Ibrahim as member of the Tambun Parliament, placing him as 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia.

This is in accordance with the authority of the king as stipulated in Article 40 (2) (a) and Article (43) (a) of the Federal Constitution.
