"You will face a very different situation. The world is experiencing very fast change, very rapid technological disruption, very dynamic geopolitics at this time, which (all of them) must be handled appropriately and quickly,"
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) called on newly inaugurated officers of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) to relentlessly prepare themselves to face the threat of rapid technological developments.

The head of state emphasized that the world of military and police is changing rapidly, so Indonesia must not be left behind and must continue to monitor technological developments to properly respond to threats.

"Therefore, I ask you all to continue to learn, hone skills and expertise, master knowledge and technology, and continue to innovate," he told the new officers at the 2023 TNI-Polri Prasetya Perwira ceremony at the yard of the Merdeka Palace here on Wednesday.

Jokowi, who inaugurated 833 new officers of the TNI and Polri on that occasion, said that they had started their journey of offering real services to demonstrate their capabilities and devotion in fulfilling the duties of serving the community, nation, and state.

"You will face a very different situation. The world is experiencing very fast change, very rapid technological disruption, very dynamic geopolitics at this time, which (all of them) must be handled appropriately and quickly," he stressed.

To this end, he urged the new officers to incessantly strive to become role models for the community by maintaining integrity, upholding the ethics and values of TNI and Polri officers, and always being at the forefront of helping the wider community.

Jokowi also expressed hope that the TNI and Polri would continue to boost synergy, increase communication and interactions, and cooperate to solve common problems.

The president also said he is proud of the achievements of the new officers, who he believes are the pride of the Indonesian nation.

He urged those young officers to always comply with the Constitution and rules.

"Make your parents proud, make your nation proud. The honor of the nation and state now rests on your shoulders. Nurture it, take care of it, and make it known," he remarked.

At Wednesday's ceremony, 833 new officers of the TNI and Polri, who graduated from military and police academies, were inaugurated. The 833 officers comprise 357 officers of the Army, 94 officers of the Navy, 114 officers of the Air Force, and 268 officers of Polri.
