Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) Hasto Wardoyo has said that a mental revolution at the level of families is essential to lay the foundation for national development.

"If a mental revolution is implemented in families, it will be extraordinary because it will build the character (of) children, wives, husbands, the community, and it will become the foundation of national development," he expounded.

Speaking at the "Reviewing the Bangga Kencana and Stunting Reduction Acceleration Programs at the National Level in 2023" seminar here on Wednesday, Wardoyo said that with the development of quality families in Indonesia, the community, the nation, and the state will be successful and advanced.

"The direction of the President of the Republic of Indonesia (Joko Widodo) is that the family is indeed the foundation for the progress of the nation," he added.

He said that currently, Indonesia has been relatively successful in building things that are visible to the eye, but it should be noted that there are still many problems that are invisible.

He noted that based on the National Basic Health Research in 2013, the prevalence of mental and emotional disorders reached 6.1 percent and climbed to 9.8 percent in 2018, or 7 per 1,000 population.

"Mental revolution must be the forerunner of controlling mental-emotional disorders," he said.
