Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), Bambang Soesatyo, made the remarks at an information dissemination event on the Four Pillars of MPR here on Saturday.
According to him, the younger generation is currently facing challenges amid rapid ICT development.
"The leap in the advancement of information and communication technology is supported by the increasingly sophisticated gadgets with features that pamper its users," the MPR Speaker said.
In 2023, the number of active mobile phone users in Indonesia reached 354 million, while the Indonesian population was pegged at 278 million, he pointed out.
"In line with the abundance of gadgets, the number of Internet users almost reached 80 percent of the total Indonesian population," he said.
He added that there are always challenges in efforts to realize superior and competitive human resources who are guided by the Pancasila spirit and love for the country.
In addition, Soesatyo said, the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) data also shows that adolescents and the younger generation are most vulnerable to radicalism.
This was reflected in Microsoft's Digital Civility Index in 2020, which ranked Indonesia as the most impolite country in the Southeast Asian region.
The factors that influenced Indonesia's poor digital civilization index were online hoaxes and fraud, hate speech, and discrimination.
Of late, the government has been reviewing recommendations from many parties to block online games that contain elements of violence.
Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno earlier said if the review finds that some online games are harmful to children, then the government will take action.
