Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has warned of the potential for floods and landslides in some parts of central and eastern Indonesia in early August this year.

Abdul Muhari, BNPB's head of data, information, and communication center, said on Wednesday that some parts of central and eastern Indonesia will experience moderate to heavy rain in the first ten days of August.

He referred to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency's (BMKG's) analysis, which predicted that Indonesia will face the La Nina phenomenon again.

The BNPB has mapped the regions that will be vulnerable to floods and landslides in early August. The regions include central, northern, and southern Sulawesi, Gorontalo, North Maluku, and most parts of Papua.

Muhari advised residents near cliffs and rivers to evacuate in case of heavy rainfall that lasts more than one hour.

He also asked the public and local governments to synergize to reduce the impact of any disaster and keep following the BMKG's weather updates.
