Nusantara, E Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Indonesian President-elect Prabowo Subianto announced that next year’s Independence Day ceremony will once again be held in Nusantara, East Kalimantan.

He stated this while accompanying President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at a press conference after the Independence Day flag-lowering ceremony in the new capital city on Saturday.

However, he did not confirm whether the ceremony will once again take place at both Merdeka Palace in Jakarta and the State Palace in Nusantara.

"We'll see later, but the ceremony will definitely be held here (in Nusantara)," Prabowo said.

On Saturday, Indonesia made history by holding its first Independence Day ceremony in the new capital, led by Jokowi and accompanied by Prabowo.

Vice President Ma'ruf Amin attended the Independence Day ceremony at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, alongside Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

This year's Independence Day celebrations adopted the theme "New Nusantara, Advanced Indonesia," reflecting Indonesia's transition to the new capital and the upcoming government change.
