“Our strategy to address the impact of US tariff policies includes enhancing competitiveness and expanding market access,” Kartasasmita said during a working meeting with the House of Representatives on Tuesday.
He explained that Indonesia is promoting downstream processing and diversifying its manufacturing products as part of a broader approach to add value to its natural resources and industrial output.
Another key priority is to expand global market access while simultaneously strengthening domestic demand.
“The domestic market is vital, as 70–80 percent of our manufacturing output is absorbed locally,” he noted.
The government is also committed to maintaining and strengthening trade relations with strategic partners. While continuing to collaborate with traditional partners such as China, ASEAN, and East Asia, Indonesia is also seeking to diversify its export destinations.
“The next step is to advance the trade diplomacy we’ve already established,” Kartasasmita added.
The US government previously expressed appreciation for the comprehensive trade proposal submitted by Indonesia to enhance bilateral economic ties.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto shared this update after reporting on his visit to the United States with President Prabowo Subianto.
According to the minister, the proposal included tariff and non-tariff measures, as well as concrete steps to achieve more balanced trade.
Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the principles of fair and equitable trade that benefit both nations.
