Jakarta (ANTARA) - Dozens of Indonesian citizens have been stranded in Israel, Jordan, and Iran due to escalating regional conflict since last weekend.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the stranded group includes 42 religious pilgrims in Israel, eight Hajj pilgrims in Jordan, and two in Tehran, Iran.

"The Indonesian citizens, who were on short trips, are stranded due to airspace closures and suspended flights,” said Judha Nugraha, the ministry’s Director for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens, on Monday.

He confirmed that Indonesian embassies in Amman and Tehran have provided assistance to those affected.

Nugraha added that the ministry, along with Indonesian diplomatic missions in the Middle East, especially in Amman and Tehran, continues to monitor the situation closely.

So far, he noted, there have been no reports of Indonesian citizens directly impacted by the escalating hostilities between Iran and Israel.

Tensions between the two countries intensified following coordinated Israeli airstrikes on several targets in Tehran, including military and nuclear facilities, on June 13. Iran responded within hours.

On June 14, Iran launched a second wave of its "Operation True Promise III," targeting economic and industrial infrastructure in the Israeli port city of Haifa. Israel retaliated by striking Iran’s Ministry of Defense and oil depots in Tehran.

Iran has reported 78 deaths from the initial Israeli strike, and dozens more casualties, including children, from the subsequent attacks.

The renewed conflict has stalled indirect nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States, which had been mediated by Oman. The sixth round of talks, originally scheduled for June 15 in Muscat, has been postponed.
