"Australia and Indonesia share much more than just a neighborhood. They share a long-lasting and enduring friendship," the minister stated during her visit to the Istiqlal Mosque, here on Monday.
During the visit, Aly emphasized that Australia is a reliable and strong development partner for Indonesia.
Therefore, Australia is committed to increasing its role in Indonesia amid global uncertainty by investing in record-high levels of development assistance and responding to local priorities.
Concerning Australia's development program in Southeast Asia, she stated that the Australian Government promotes shared interests aimed at creating a safe, stable, and prosperous region.
"We are focused on the challenges and opportunities in one of the most dynamic regions in the world," she noted.
In Jakarta, Anne Aly will meet with senior Indonesian ministers, including Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, officials at the National Development Planning Agency, and civil society organizations to discuss bilateral cooperation in line with Indonesia's development priorities.
She affirmed that Australia is committed to working with Indonesia and other ASEAN partners to advance shared priorities in the region.
Following her Jakarta visit, Aly will travel to Surabaya, East Java, where she will visit Western Sydney University's first international campus and meet with Indonesian alumni who studied in Australia.
The minister is also scheduled to discuss with regional leaders about the two countries' partnership in education and disaster preparedness.
Subsequently, she will visit Dili, the capital of Timor-Leste, to meet with senior leaders of the Timor-Leste Government to discuss ways to advance Timor-Leste's development priorities ahead of its membership in ASEAN in October 2025.
Accompanied by Australia's Special Envoy for Southeast Asia, Nicholas Moore, and Australia's Business Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Shane Walden, Aly will also attend the Timor-Leste-Australia Economic and Business Conference.
She described this conference as an opportunity to reaffirm Australia's commitment to partnering with Timor-Leste to achieve its economic growth and diversification objectives.
