Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto asserted that tax serves as an instrument for redistributing state income and pursuing an equitable economy for all citizens.

"It is crucial to remain consistent in optimizing state revenue. Tax is an instrument of justice, a tool that compels the wealthy to contribute and helps the poor," he remarked in his speech on the 2026 Draft State Budget and Financial Notes in Jakarta on Friday.

In the presence of top executive, legislative, judicial, and security officials, the president emphasized that the government is committed to boosting tax revenue while maintaining a healthy investment climate and ensuring business sustainability. He noted that fiscal incentives would remain available for eligible recipients to support strategic economic activities.

Shifting from taxation, the head of state highlighted the importance of improving the country’s capacity to manage and leverage its natural resources so they deliver maximum benefits to the people.

He also stressed the need to manage state assets efficiently and use them productively to increase their contribution to the national economy.

"In the world of business, a company is considered good and successful if its return on assets stands around 12 percent. We may aim for 10 percent, but I think five percent is adequate for the Indonesian nation," he stated.

The president delivered the remarks during a plenary session of the House of Representatives (DPR) before 473 legislators, including DPR Speaker Puan Maharani, as well as senior officials from the executive, judicial, and security sectors.

Among the cabinet members in attendance were Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, and Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian.
