"For those whose homes were damaged by the quake, they cannot currently return home and should wait for the reconstruction process to be completed," said BNPB Head, Lieutenant General Suharyanto, in Poso on Tuesday.
For the time being, residents could stay or rent accommodation at their neighbors' or other places. Rental and accommodation costs would be covered by the central government through BNPB.
Residents will get monthly financial aid of Rp600 thousand ($36.84 USD) per family until their homes are rebuilt, which is expected to take about three months.
The residents will also receive stimulus assistance for home repairs: Rp15 million ($920 USD) for homes with minor damage, Rp30 million ($1,842 USD) for homes with moderate damage, and Rp60 million ($3,685 USD) for homes with severe damage.
The stimulus assistance for repairing a heavily damaged house will take the form of a type 36 --a compact dwelling with 36 square meters of living space-- that is built to be livable, disaster-safe, and earthquake-resistant, he said.
BNPB recorded material losses due to the Poso quake, including 66 houses with severe damage and 241 houses with minor damage. In addition, 14 places of worship, four educational facilities, and three offices were damaged.
The Poso district government declared a state of emergency following the 5.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Poso district on August 17. The earthquake emergency response status is valid for 14 days, from August 18 to 31, 2025.
