Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta International Jazz Festival (JakJazz), Southeast Asia’s oldest international jazz festival, will return on Dec. 20, 2025, after a six-year break, organizers said on Wednesday.

The 15th edition will be held outdoors at Senayan Park in Jakarta with a capacity of about 4,500, Festival Director Tommy Maulana announced at the "JakJazz Intimate Media Luncheon 2025."

JakJazz 2025 adopts the theme "Respecting the Legacy, Empowering the Youth," focusing on promoting emerging Indonesian talent while featuring select international artists, including Motoharu from Japan and a guest from the United States.

“The lineup will no longer be split evenly between local and international acts,” said Maulana, son of JakJazz founder Ireng Maulana.

“This year, our priority is spotlighting local talent,” he added.

Among the confirmed performers is rising Indonesian jazz singer Natasha Elvira, a student of Nesia Ardi from the band NonaRia.

To build momentum, organizers will host a series of pre-festival and post-festival events. One of the main pre-events is a free “Jazz Parade” set in Jakarta’s Thamrin area on an upcoming Sunday morning. The exact date has yet to be announced.

Additional programs and side events include JakJazz Lab – creative workshops and music classes; JakJazz City Beats – pop-up gigs and jam sessions; JakJazz Collabs – cross-industry and lifestyle collaborations; JakJazz Stream – online music content; and Appreciation Night – a special tribute event.

Maulana said the festival aims to keep Jakarta’s jazz legacy alive and support the city’s cultural identity as a global hub.
