Indonesia’s Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is training coastal communities in digital marketing to help their fisheries products reach domestic and international buyers.
Head of the ministry’s Marine and Fisheries Human Resources Development Agency I Nyoman Radiarta said the initiative is part of a broader digital transformation to support the government’s blue economy agenda and strengthen food security.
“One concrete step is the digital marketing training program for coastal communities, conducted online by the Marine and Fisheries Training Center,” Radiarta said in a statement on Wednesday.
The program, attended by 483 participants, is a collaboration between the ministry, the Indonesian Traditional Fishermen’s Union (KNTI), and the Coastal Students and Youth Association of Indonesia (KPPMPI).
Radiarta said digital tools would serve as a bridge to expand market access.
“We hope this program produces creative, tech-savvy entrepreneurs who can support food self-sufficiency and improve the welfare of coastal communities,” he said.
Lilly Aprilya Pregiwati, Head of the Marine and Fisheries Training Center, said the curriculum covers practical skills tailored to industry needs such as producing promotional content, optimizing social media, and opening online stores on digital marketplaces.
She added that the program also stresses product quality and food safety to meet national and international standards, aligning with the government’s goal of providing affordable, nutritious, and sustainable food.
Marine Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono has said digitalization is not an option but a necessity, and that coastal communities must play a central role in ensuring Indonesian fisheries products gain higher value and global competitiveness, contributing to the country’s Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.
