These efforts are reflected in the disclosure and resolution of major cases that emerged during the first year of the Prabowo administration.
“One of the key milestones is the return of Rp13.2 trillion (about US$795.5 million) to the state treasury from the corruption case involving the export of crude palm oil (CPO) and its derivatives,” Setiawan said in a statement here on Tuesday.
The case, which shocked the public in 2022, was finally resolved through a lengthy legal process that reached the Supreme Court’s cassation stage. Setiawan emphasized that the recovery of state funds is not only a legal achievement but also proof of the government’s consistency in upholding economic justice.
In addition, law enforcement authorities have also begun handling other major cases, including an alleged corruption case within the PT Pertamina (Persero) business group with estimated state losses reaching Rp285 trillion (about US$17.1 billion).
“This shows that law enforcement in the Prabowo era has not stopped at one case but has begun to address the structural issues that have long caused national economic leakage,” Setiawan explained.
He added that strong law enforcement in Indonesia has major psychological and economic impacts.
Psychologically, the public is beginning to feel the government’s presence in defending and protecting them.
Economically, strong law enforcement provides legal certainty for businesses operating in Indonesia.
However, he stressed that these efforts would mean little if not implemented consistently.
“The effectiveness of law enforcement does not stop at prosecution but must be followed by governance reform and systemic improvement,” he said.
He expressed hope that the government would establish a strict and modern supervisory system to prevent long-term corrupt practices.
“The government has significant momentum to improve the licensing system, digitize supervision, and enhance data transparency across ministries to prevent widespread corruption,” he added.
