Jakarta (ANTARA) - Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian stated that health services have been fully restored in the three flood- and landslide-hit provinces of Sumatra: Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

In a meeting on Sumatra post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction in Jakarta on Monday, he highlighted that the achievement is a result of accelerated efforts carried out by the central government in collaboration with the local governments.

According to data from the Task Force for Sumatra Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration, of the 87 affected regional public hospitals, nine had previously ceased operations, comprising eight in Aceh and one in North Sumatra.

Currently, all of these hospitals have resumed normal operations.

Meanwhile, out of the 867 community health centers (puskesmas) affected, 152 were previously out of service. Currently, 865 have returned to normal operations, while two are still operating in temporary locations as they await the construction of new buildings.

Karnavian, concurrently serving as the task force’s chair, stated that school learning in the three affected provinces has been fully running again, even though around 3 percent is still carried out in emergency classrooms.

In the basic infrastructure sector, the restoration of electrical services has shown significant progress.

In Aceh Province, less than 1 percent of areas remain in the recovery process, while in North Sumatra, services are 99 percent restored. In West Sumatra, power has been 100 percent restored.

All public gas stations in these three provinces are also back in operation.

Furthermore, internet services in the affected areas are reportedly back to normal, and the supply of fuel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) remains relatively stable.

The minister emphasized the importance of maintaining a consistent supply of these logistics to support public activity and accelerate regional economic recovery.

In the economic sector, all markets in West Sumatra and North Sumatra are 100 percent operational again. In Aceh, approximately 65 percent of markets have resumed operations, while the rest are undergoing a gradual recovery process.

He ensured that government administration in all disaster-affected areas has resumed, including in Aceh Tamiang District—one of the regions hit hardest by the November floods.

Local governments at the provincial, district, and city levels have also returned to performing their public service functions as normal.

However, he noted that several infrastructures still need further attention, including provincial, district, and village roads and bridges.
