Depok, W Java (ANTARA News) - Djoko Santoso, the newly appointed acting rector of the University of Indonesia (UI), has held a meeting with the senior staff of the university.

"This was just an introductory session," he told ANTARA News after the meeting at the university campus here on Thursday.

Djoko, the Higher Education Director General of the Education and Cultural Ministry, was appointed as the acting rector of UI by Education and Cultural Minister Mohammad Nuh recently, after the university`s rector Gumilar R Somantri`s term of office (2007-12) ended.

"As the acting rector, Djoko will help facilitate the election of the university`s new rector," said Siane Indriani, the head of UI`s communication department.

"Potential candidates for the position can apply during the August 8-31 period, and the results will be announced on October 9, 2012," she added.

Meanwhile, the university`s rector election organizing committee head Endriartono Sutarto said the committee had accepted applications from 10 candidates so far.(*)
