Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The first phase of the Trans Sumatra Toll Road project will cover 323.8 km in four routes, Public Works Minister Djoko Kirmanto said here on Thursday.

The Trans Sumatra Toll Road will have 23 routes covering a total length of 2,700 km, the minister said after attending a coordinating meeting on the development of Trans Sumatra Toll Road and Sunda Strait Bridge projects.

The first phase of the development will cover 323.8 km in four routes, namely Medan-Binjai route (16.8 km), Pekan Baru-Dumai route (135 km), Indralaya-Palembang route (22 km) and Bakauheni-Terbanggi Besar route (150 km).

The funds allocated for the construction of the four routes will reach Rp31.5 trillion, consisting of Rp2 trillion for the construction of Medan-Binjai route, Rp14.7 trillion for Pekan Baru-Dumai route, Rp1 trillion for Indralaya-Palembang route, and Rp13.8 trillion for Bakauheni-Terbanggi route.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Hatta Rajasa said the groundbreaking ceremony of the Trans Sumatra Toll Road project will be held this year.

He said the government will speed up the implementation of the toll road project which will connect Bandar Lampung, Lampung Province, with Banda Aceh, Aceh Province.
