"I see that the Pansel KPK members have integrity and are credible. The Pansel KPK comprises experts in many disciplines," acting deputy chairman of the KPK Johan Budi said here on Thursday.
Budi emphasized that the anti-corruption body needs people who not only understand the law but also its management and technology.
"In addition, I see that the Pansel KPK members are not affiliated with or related to any particular political party," he affirmed.
According to Budi, members of the KPK selected today will play a crucial role in determining the agencys future.
"Incidents experienced by the KPK towards the end of the third period served as important lessons for the commission. So choosing the right leaders for the 2015 to 2019 period is extremely important as there are possibilities of political interests playing a role in the selection of the KPK commissioners," Budi explained.
He also pointed out that the Pansel KPK must select commissioners independently and in an integrated and credible manner.
On Thursday morning, President Joko Widodo (Joko Widodo) announced the names of the selection committee members of the Corruption Eradication Commission.
The president expressed hope that through the Pansel KPK, credible and qualified KPK commissioners would be selected.
The members of the Pansel KPK are, among others, Destri Damayanti, an economist; Enny Urbaningsih, a constitutional law expert; Herkristuti Herkrisnowo, a legal expert; Betty Alisjahbana, an IT expert and management; Yenti Garnasih, an economic criminal law expert; Sumpra Windarti, a psychologist of human resources and education; Natalia Subagyo, an expert of governance; Diani Sadyawati, an legal expert; and Meutia Gani, a sociologist.
"I hope the selected KPK commissioners are credible and qualified," Jokowi said at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport before leaving for East Java.
In the company of First Lady Iriana, President Jokowi and his entourage left Halim Perdanakusuma Airport here at 8 a.m. Western Indonesia Standard Time (WIB) for East Java for a working visit.
While in East Java, the head of state is scheduled to oversee numerous infrastructure projects and to distribute three social cards---Indonesian Health Cards (KIS), Indonesian Smart Cards (KIP), and Prosperous Family Cards (KKS)---to some local residents.
In the last few weeks, President Jokowi has handed out similar social cards to the people of numerous regions in Central Java and Papua, and even in Jakarta.
He has asked the recipients of the cards to use them well so they can reap the benefits of improved welfare.
