Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly, Bambang Soesatyo, has asked offices to follow the government's advice to implement shifts and allow employees to work-from-home in rotation to stem COVID-19 spread.

Speaking in Jakarta on Friday, he said his suggestion was in response to offices emerging as new contagion centers for COVID-19.

"(I) encourage office leaders to implement government recommendations to have employees work in shifts and work from home (WFH) in turns," he added.

Soesatyo also asked office heads to ensure each of their employees who report to work are fit and healthy.

“So, there would be no potential for offices to become a place of transmission for COVID-19," he explained.

He further said that office heads must be firm with employees, ensure discipline, and be strict in implementing the health protocols in the office environment to reduce the risk of COVID-19 spread.

He also advised offices to prepare facilities and infrastructure to support cleanliness, in keeping with the COVID-19 protocols, including spraying of disinfectants on a regular basis, and implement the rule on physical distancing, especially when holding meetings or activities that involve several people.

“(I am) Reminding the public not to underestimate COVID-19, and increase awareness and concern because the COVID-19 number is still increasing," he cautioned.
