Thus, we can realize the IKN as a safe and comfortable city, which upholds human rights.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The development of Indonesia’s new capital city (IKN) must take the local sociocultural and socioeconomic aspects into account, head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Laksana Tri Handoko has emphasized.

During a webinar on Thursday on IKN’s infrastructure readiness and the migration of civil servants to the new capital city in early 2024, he said that paying attention to these aspects is important since local communities will become a part of the new culture of the IKN, Nusantara.

The government must be able to ensure that all residents of the capital city can synergize with each other to realize an Advanced Indonesia by 2045.

The state can continue its social protection and security program by empowering local human resources through every IKN development program, such as for green and smart city infrastructure development.

The relocation of the national capital will also intensify interactions between people from different ethnicities. It will provide benefits, such as strengthening the national languages and economic growth.

Hence, regional archaeological artifacts, the diversity of local systems, local languages, as well as cultural spaces must be maintained.

“We also have to handle various challenges in the cultural and socioeconomic aspects by establishing a multicultural and inclusive society as well as preserving traditions," the BRIN head remarked.

Hence, the capital city’s development should not only focus on physical infrastructure, but also on innovation and technology-based infrastructure, he said.

It is the duty of the civil servants to continue improving public services and governance to increase efficiency, he added.

Thus, BRIN is ready to help the government to develop into a global role model in the management of water, food, construction, and energy, Handoko said.

"Thus, we can realize the IKN as a safe and comfortable city, which upholds human rights," he remarked.
