Jakarta (ANTARA) - The readiness of the Jatidiri Swimming Pool in Semarang City, Central Java Province, to host the XI ASEAN Para Games (APG) had reached 90 percent, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy stated.

He said in a statement received here on Thursday that initially, the aquatic sports of the international event were planned to be held at the Intan Pari Swimming Pool in Karanganyar District, Central Java Province.

However, the venue in Karanganyar District does not have adequate facilities, he said.

He has noted that although the readiness of the Jatidiri Swimming Pool has almost been completed, some minor improvements are still required, such as the construction of a 200-meter access road, as well as the cleanliness of the athlete's warming-up area.

“However, no (additional) special budget is needed since it has been covered by the (budget stipulated in) presidential decree. Later, it may also be provided from corporate social responsibility," Effendy said.

He has expected that various preparations which are being carried out will be completed soon, according to the determined schedule.

Furthermore, he praised the Central Java Provincial Government, who had readied the venues for the XI APG.

"We would like to thank all parties who have played an active role in preparing the event," he added.

According to a report received by the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, there will be 1,648 athletes from 11 countries who will participate in the event.

The main host of the XI APG is Solo City. The event will be held from July 30 to August 6, 2022.

Some 14 sports will be contested at the event, including athletics, boccia, archery, para judo, weight lifting, swimming, table tennis, field tennis, chess, goalball, badminton, bicycle racing, cerebral palsy football, and sitting volleyball.

In addition to Karanganyar District and Solo City, some facilities in Sukoharjo District will also become the venue of the XI APG..
