Assistant to the National Police Chief, Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo, stated here on Friday that 78 thousand trees were simultaneously planted by police personnel, ranging from the levels of the Police Headquarters to the regional police, district police, and sectoral police stations across Indonesia.
"Today's reforestation activity was simultaneously carried out in all regional police to the district police and sectoral police levels, in commemoration of the 78th Anniversary of Indonesia and also for the 75th Anniversary of the Women Police (Polwan)," Prasetyo revealed.
He explained that this tree-planting activity was a momentum for all members of the National Police to contribute to fighting global climate change.
Prasetyo noted that the current climate change conditions are quite extreme, thereby causing droughts in some places and also forest and land fires, such as in Maui, Hawaii, that had claimed 100 lives.
"Similarly, in Indonesia, there are some regions that have experienced drought and forest and land fires," he pointed out.
Prasetyo underscored the importance of awareness and concern for the environment while stressing that a better environment is an investment that will be passed on to the future generation.
To this end, he emphasized that Polri’s reforestation activity is not just ceremonial, or lasting one day, but rather, it will continue until October 2023, with a target of planting one million trees.
"By planting trees, more or less, it will contribute to tackling climate change and make the environment better and greener," he stated.
The tree-planting activity will be conducted again at the summit of the 17th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC) on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara.
