Puan Maharani, Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), said in statement here Thursday that post-disaster efforts must include financial support for grassroots communities, market vendors, farmers, and small businesses.
“As the face of Indonesia’s tourism, Bali deserves special attention. The floods have not only harmed local residents but also Indonesia’s image,” she said.
Maharani vowed that parliament will monitor the recovery to ensure it is transparent, timely, and community-centered.

For long-term mitigation, she urged the government to carry out spatial planning audits, river basin management, reforestation of upstream areas, and the development of stronger urban drainage systems.
She also called on authorities to maintain clear communication with residents to prevent confusion and misinformation.
For immediate response, Maharani asked the central and regional governments to meet the basic needs of those affected by the floods.
She emphasized the importance of accelerating the distribution of emergency aid, including food, clean water, medicines, and clothing, as well as provisions for babies, children, and older adults.
The Bali Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported that floods hit seven districts and cities: Denpasar, Gianyar, Badung, Tabanan, Karangasem, Jembrana, and Klungkung. At least 562 residents have been displaced — 327 in Jembrana and 235 in Denpasar.
The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) said the death toll has reached 14, while two people remain missing in Denpasar.
