Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s land and spatial planning policies must serve the public interest and promote sustainable development, Agrarian Affairs Minister Nusron Wahid said on Thursday.

“Land and space management only matter if they truly benefit the people,” Nusron said in a statement marking Agrarian and Spatial Planning Day (Hantaru).

He emphasized that the policies align with Astacita, the government’s long-term development vision, by ensuring responsible use of land and natural resources for future generations.

Nusron also reflected on the significance of Law No. 5 of 1960, which laid the foundation for the country’s agrarian framework. The law declares that land, water, and natural resources are controlled by the state and must be used for the greatest welfare of the people.

A ceremony commemorating Hantaru 2025 was held in Jakarta on Wednesday, promoting national pride and reaffirming the ministry’s institutional legacy, which dates back to the Agrarian Bureau established in 1946 under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

This year’s Hantaru theme, “Protected Land, Well-Managed Space, Realizing Astacita,” underscores the role of spatial planning in achieving sustainable national development.

The ministry’s current structure is supported by Presidential Decree No. 133/P of 2024 and Presidential Regulations Nos. 176 and 177 of 2024, which detail its functions and organization under President Prabowo Subianto’s administration.

Nusron reiterated the government’s commitment to fair, effective land use and spatial policies that prevent resource misuse while encouraging inclusive development.

“From legal reform to institutional strengthening, we must continue building a land system that delivers real value to society,” he said.
