First Inspector I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya, spokesperson for Denpasar city police, said that a crime scene investigation by the unit found no indication of foul play on the victim’s body.
“The scene examination found no signs of violence, and the victim is believed to have died of natural causes due to illness,” he said on Wednesday.
The incident occurred at Sanur Resort Watu Jimbar on Jalan Danau Tamblingan in South Denpasar and was reported Tuesday evening at around 6:30 p.m. local time.
The victim was identified as Geoffrey Kenneth Alford, 71, an Australian national, police said.
Adi said witness statements indicated hotel staff were initially asked to check on the guest after he failed to respond to calls since the morning.
Attempts to reach the victim by telephone and by knocking on the room door were unsuccessful, raising concern among hotel personnel about his condition.
Staff then attempted to open the room using a master key but found the door locked from the inside, prompting them to call a technician for assistance.
After the door was opened, the victim was found lying on his back on the bed, showing no immediate signs of distress or disturbance in the room.
Hotel security personnel subsequently reported the incident to police for further handling and formal investigation procedures.
“Preliminary examination by our forensic team confirmed there were no signs of violence, and the death is suspected to be related to health conditions,” Adi said.
The body was later evacuated by a Denpasar disaster mitigation agency ambulance to Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah General Hospital for further examination.
