"The election is a planned process in regenerating the national leadership, and we expect the election to run safely and orderly and by gaining legitimacy from the people,"Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Greater Jakarta Police, here on Monday, held a gathering with the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) and community figures to realize peaceful and safe General Elections in 2024.
Chief of the Greater Jakarta Police, Inspector General Karyoto, explained that the gathering has a noble goal of equalizing perceptions, building commitment, and making various efforts, so that the upcoming elections can run safely and peacefully.
"This is a gathering where the governor and the (provincial) government staff, the Indonesian Military and National Police (TNI-Polri), and community leaders are present," Karyoto noted in a statement.
He remarked that the nation will hold a multi-stage election through which the process of leadership regeneration will be conducted.
"Earlier, the Director of Intelligence and Security had described how the 2019 election had (borne witness to) various kinds of incidents. We will certainly learn from these things and fix them," he remarked.
Karyoto affirmed that the gathering event aimed to discuss efforts to make the next year's election safer and secure.
Through the gathering, he expected that religious and community leaders could communicate and stay in touch with the people.
"The election is a planned process in regenerating the national leadership, and we expect the election to run safely and orderly and by gaining legitimacy from the people," he stated.
He also affirmed that Jakarta has the highest level of vulnerability to security risks among other provinces.
He explained that the city has a high risk of security disturbances, as it is the location of the central government and state agencies in addition to the ongoing issue related to the Constitutional Court's decision on the presidential and vice presidential requirements.
"Hopefully, whatever the results (of the election) are, the community can receive them well and without any overreaction," Karyoto stated.
